Bremen

The city of Bremen is located in Northern Germany, just over an hour from Hamburg and just over two from the Netherlands. It’s famously associated with the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale about the “Bremen Town Musicians” — a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster who embark on a journey to the city. There’s a well-known statue in Bremen commemorating these characters, which has become one of the city’s most iconic symbols. It’s located within the beautifully preserved medieval city center.

Bremen was a member of the Hanseatic League, a powerful economic and defensive alliance of merchant guilds and market towns in Northern Europe from the late Middle Ages. This heritage still shapes Bremen’s economy and culture. Bremen is a large city with many facets - history, tradition, science, nature and culture - which combine to create an ever-fascinating experience.

Today, Bremen also excels for its cycling culture, with miles of bike lanes and a vibrant community of cyclists. Participants and spectators alike have the opportunity to explore Bremen’s rich history, cultural landmarks, and renowned hospitality, making GFNY Bremen not just a race, but a complete cycling

Schnoor Quarter (Schnoor Viertel)

Schnoor One photo exhibit & store, and dozens of quaint shops and great restaurants is a must-see during your trip to Bremen.

The Schnoor is one of Bremen's absolute highlights. Only a few hundred meters from Bremen's market square, the unique and oldest district of the city will delight you. The quarter is a sight in itself, and has cozy cafés, arts and crafts shops.

There is the Bremer Geschichtenhaus museum, a quaint little "wedding house" to stay in for newlyweds or lovers, and a small theater, the Packhaustheater. In the Geschichtenhaus (Story House) actors are telling famous stories about Bremen and well known citizens (the stories are told only in German).

The Schnoor is also home to the story of Bremen's original Heini Holtenbeen, the Birgitten Monastery, the only monastery in the city, and the Katzengang, probably one of the narrowest streets in the world.
